Our program:  We begin by presenting a musical program to all of the children at the Boys and Girls Clubs.  The program is designed to stimulate an interest in music and to introduce the children to our program.

We start the students that sign up on the recorder.  We do this because recorders are inexpensive.  Each student can own an instrument and be able to take it home to practice. We use the recorder as a vehicle to teach the students to read music.  These classes are given in a group setting.

Students that demonstrate a willingness to practice the recorder are given the opportunity to "graduate" to private lessons on a traditional band or orchestra instruments.

Several of the students that have taken private lessons in our program have gone on to be first chair players at the local middle schools.

There are, of course, many fringe benefits to studying music, such as building confidence, developing patience, and positive work habits that carry over to all aspects of life.
