TRUMPET PLAYERS AND THEIR STORIES

AN INTERVIEW WITH UAN RASEY
Uan Rasey isn’t exactly a household name, yet his trumpet playing may have been heard by more people than almost any other trumpet player in history. Uan Rasey was known to musicians, arrangers, and composers as one of the best trumpet players in the business. He was a studio musician and played his first movie score at Warner Brothers in 1940.
In 1949 he became principal trumpet with the MGM studio orchestra. Until he retired in 1979 he played on almost three thousand soundtracks including such hits as: Westside Story, April in Paris, How the West was Won, Gigi, and Chinatown.
Prior to playing in the studios he played radio shows. He has played for such stars as Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Anita O’Day, Doris Day, Judy Garland, and the Monkees.
Uan Rasey has one of the most inspiring and positive attitudes of anyone I have ever met. He has been an inspiration and mentor to many trumpet players and musicians.
